NORTHFIELD — After a successful first round, the Deerfield Valley Art Association’s Center with the Arts is now accepting submissions to get a second Corona Mask Competition.

Many people are making their own masks for COVID-19 safeguards, and some of them is often rather fashionable, but Connecticut-based artist Corina Alvarezdelugo has taken mask-making with a new artistic, albeit non-functional, stage. Inspired by Alvarezdelugo’s do the job, DVAA Exhibit Coordinator Marge Anderson launched the first Corona Mask Contest inside June, the overall winner of which was Carmen Pineda from Roslindale.
Pineda won regarding her mask titled “My Survival Mask, ” created via expired medication, Albuterol plus recycled tubes from the girl nebulizer machine.

“Both my son and also I are asthmatics plus understand the fear of being able to breathe well and that they are vulnerable during this pandemic, ” Pineda said.

Other winners included Jessica Gorman associated with Holyoke, who earned 2nd place for her goggles, “We are all in this together. ” Nina Rossi associated with Turners Falls earned finally place with her cover, “Air Resist, ” and also Jon Bander of Turners Falls received special recognition regarding his metal sculpture, “Pandemic. ”

This second round on the contest will see participants submit pieces for various art divisions. The first division could be the mask-making portion, inspired by Alvarezdelugo’s compilation of face masks. Participants must only work with materials found around their home to build a wearable mask, whether or not it’s not functional.

“This period, there’s also going to become a fine art portion, ” Anderson claimed.

The second division is usually a painting or drawing tournament. Anderson said paintings in addition to drawings should depict your mask either realistically or perhaps abstract, worn or inserted.
The third division is often a sculpture contest. Anderson said sculptures may be free-standing or relief. Relief is usually a sculptural technique where your sculpted elements remain that come with a solid background of the same material.

According that will Anderson, awards will receive to the best works in each category. Winners on the first and second section of the contest will then be in the running for “best around show” and “people’s choice” ribbons. Submissions may be gorgeous, serious, humorous or preposterous, but judges and organizers have the right to refuse synonyms deemed offensive or incorrect. There is no limit on may be masks, paintings, drawings or maybe sculptures a participant can submit.

Interested participants must receive a high-quality photo of their particular art and submit the photo from a JPEG format to Anderson with margedvaa@gmail. com by Sept. SEVERAL. Submissions must include a title for that piece, a list this materials used and phone information.

While DVAA’s gallery from 105 Main St. had been closed during a lot of the lasting pandemic, Anderson said the location is now open. Current hours are Thursdays from 3 to 6 p. m. plus Saturdays from noon to be able to 4 p. m.
