WHEN I resisted the urge to buy a set of Birkenstocks for about a couple of years. They're pretty pricey for any sandal, and I just didn't discover how long the crunchy sandal look would be in vogue, especially in Los angeles City where I dwell.

Then I got a good annoying, mysterious foot incidents, and my podiatrist told me I couldn't wear any kind of super flat shoes—effectively ruling out every single pair of sandals WHEN I owned—right as summer was rounding the corner.

So I did it—I ripped the trigger and bought a set of orgeous, supportive, white Birkenstocks. My feet were happy. My wallet would defeat it. But I appeared to be obsessed.

At the occasion, I was gearing up for a big trekking trip in Peru with REI Travels; we'd be spending a short time in Cusco, Peru, hiking Macchu Picchu after which it heading up to that high Andes mountains for any multi-day lodge-to-lodge trek. I needed to bring a set of sandals that would retain my foot injury coming from flaring up (especially with all the current time I'd be investing hiking), and could serve while my ~chill~ sandals while in the lodges or while taking walks around town...but I sure as hell wasn't about to bring my shiny white-colored, brand-new Birkenstocks on you will need hiking trip, complete having llamas and alpacas galore. Le dilemma.

Luckily, somewhere on the internet, I stumbled across the waterproof version with the classic Birkenstock Arizona sandals—and for less than 50 % of the $100+ price level of the leather in addition to cork versions. (FYI, you're not supposed to get the particular classic Birks super wet because it can damage the leather and compromise the sealant, in accordance with the brand. )
This time, I didn't even aim to resist; I snagged a set of black Birkenstock Arizona Essentials (Buy It, $45, amazon. com), which are constructed with EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate) a brilliant light plastic polymer that is flexible and feels pretty much like foam under your feet.
And, TBH, I almost hate to express it, but I may love these babies a lot more than the originals. Because they're made from EVA, they're totally waterproof, easy to clean, float in the event you drop them in a new body of water, and are also also insanely comfortable. While they're not quite as supportive as the classic cork Birkenstocks (which are known if you are great for your foot, thanks to their orthotic-like footbeds), they're more comfortable, since the EVA provides cushion-like give. It feels like you're walking on very small memory foam platforms.

I've since worn these people for long walks around Manhattan City, to the beach front, on boats, around your property, and for walks inside the woods—these things go almost everywhere and still look clean. I bought a african american pair because I assumed I'd get them dirty, but after seeing how simply they rinse off, I would need to buy some of their bright colorways as well. (Which, honestly, at solely $45, who can resist?!) The brand currently offers 11 different colors in the waterproof sandal on Amazon, as well as khaki green, bright green, coral, metallic copper, as well as scuba blue. They also have a creamsicle orange coloring that's, like, pure, summer joy in the shoe.
Reviewers agree that these sandals are the freaking best; 75 percent on the 6, 814 reviewers on Amazon impart them with five stars, and there're also ranked a #1 Finest Seller on Amazon pertaining to women's slide sandals. 1 reviewer, who has worn out leather Birks for "about SOMETHING LIKE 20 years now, usually getting a new pair every very few years" says that they thought i would give the EVA State of az Essentials a shot, and wound up loving them: "I wore these virtually any day for about 8 months and There's no doubt that I could probably keep getting a while, but they are searching a bit worn. I am impressed with these. I feel as though I certainly got my $40 worth of use out of them. " That reviewer also mentions of which "for $40, these are a good introduction to people who aren't ready to spend the big bucks for any leather versions, and luckily they are a great deal some people will like Birkenstocks but have something waterproof. "

If you're interested but not to the traditional double-strap style, you may also grab a pair health of their Barbados Essentials slides (Buy That, $40, amazon. com), Gizeh Requirements T-strap sandal (Buy That, $45, amazon. com), or perhaps a pair of the Birkenstock Honolulu Sandal (Buy The item, $40, amazon. com), any supportive flip flop, while in the same EVA material.

All I can say is the fact once you've tried some Birks (leather or EVA) fat loss go back—you'll be hooked.
